It offers the largest concentration of researchers in education in a Scottish university, meaning that students will be supported by and have the opportunity to collaborate with leaders in the field.

The PhD represents a substantial piece of independent research that contributes to the existing body of knowledge in the field.
The PhD programme is designed to take three years full-time or six years part-time. The programme is assessed through the submission of a thesis of up to 100,000 words and an oral examination.
