The Fitness and Recreation Management at GCC provides students a background in business, health, and fitness with the opportunity to earn National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited credentials through American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a certified personal trainer. Students will have the opportunity to learn and work with state of the art fitness assessment technology and equipment. In GCC's Human Performance Lab, data such as body fat %, resting metabolic rate, Vo2 max, isometric strength and much more is collected and used to develop training programs and meal plans for clientele. As GCC graduates of the Fitness and Recreation Management program, students will be capable and marketable to enter a rapidly growing work force. • Follow prescribed legal guidelines of the profession. • Apply ethical standards of the profession. • Apply a variety of management skills (decision-making, change management, conflict management, etc.) to various situations in sport management. • Describe techniques to promote wellness throughout a lifetime. • Discuss strategies to remain current in the fitness field. • Develop fitness programs to specifically meet client goals. • Discuss the impact nutrition has on fitness and training. • Communicate effectively in a professional environment.
