The Level 6 Pre-Master’s Programme (PMP) is a two-semester programme, with guaranteed progression to a wide range of Master’s degrees at Loughborough University. This programme is designed to prepare international students for postgraduate study in the UK. The PMP will allow students to improve their English while learning the study skills and research methods that they will need during their Master's degree studies. Students will study academic modules relating to their chosen progression route. Each semester consists of thirteen teaching weeks, one reading week, and an assessment week. The weekly hours of study varies by semester with students on average studying around 18-21 (and up to 21) hours per week. Each module will have an assessment schedule, which will be completed by the end of the appropriate semester. Assessments will be designed to demonstrate learning across the individual modules of the programme and to allow students to experience a wide range of the assessment methods used in UK postgraduate programmes. Assessments will include coursework, essays, reports and other structured assignments, oral examination and unseen written examinations. Master of Science - Social Science Research - Sport and Exercise Science The programme is designed to produce graduates with rigorous research and analytical skills, who are well equipped to progress onto being high-level researchers in their chosen field of study. Students will gain an understanding of the key epistemological and ontological debates that frame social science research, while developing advanced knowledge of the methodologies, processes, designs and practices involved in social science research. Students will acquire in-depth training in the conduct and management of research, from its commencement to its conclusion, and explore and reflect on developing research skills in the context of their areas of research interest. In particular, students will be able to apply their new skills and knowledge in the context of sport, exercise and health science research, drawing on the expertise of one of the world's leading centres of expertise in the field. Research within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences is multidisciplinary, drawing on the full spectrum of natural and social sciences, and is focused on issues of contemporary concern at international, national and local levels.
