Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) with RN Prescribing at Carleton University is a compressed three-year program designed to prepare students for professional nursing practice. The program focuses on the relationship between nurses, patients, and communities, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experiences to develop practice-ready Registered Nurses. Students complete coursework through a hybrid model that includes classroom learning, experiential learning labs, medical simulation, and clinical placements. The curriculum provides students with a strong foundation in areas such as health sciences, professional nursing practice, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, adult health, and clinical care. Through innovative learning approaches, including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and simulation-based education, students develop the clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and professional competencies required in modern healthcare environments. Students may also pursue concentrations in Mental Health and Neuroscience or Nursing Data Science (Artificial Intelligence) to further develop expertise in specialized areas of nursing practice. Carleton's Nursing program emphasizes hands-on learning through clinical placements beginning early in the program and was developed in partnership with healthcare organizations, including Queensway Carleton Hospital, to reflect current nursing practice needs. Graduates are prepared to pursue careers as Registered Nurses and contribute to healthcare delivery across diverse communities.
