Overview
When students join the University of Alberta’s Year One Foundation Program, they become U of A students from day one. They receive academic support that prepares them to enter a bachelor’s degree program in their second year, along with a “soft landing” to studying in Canada.
The University of Alberta’s Year One Foundation Program represents the first year of a four-year bachelor’s degree. It is designed for students who have course deficiencies and do not yet meet the academic entry requirements for their chosen degree program. Upon successful completion of the program, students progress directly into the second year without losing time on their path to graduation.
Why study this program? Business Technology Management (BTM) is about applying information technology to manage and analyze operations and solve business problems. Knowledge of information technology is essential to modern management, and majoring in BTM will provide the capability to manage information systems or to assist senior management in its information technology strategy.
With a major in Business Technology Management (BTM), students will learn about business processes and analyze how to improve processes using IT. In taking this major students should also develop expertise in at least one other area of business, such as Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, or Operations Management. Students will also have the option to take electives offered by other faculties such as Science and Arts, preparing them for employment in virtually any field.
Why study at the University of Alberta? The Alberta School of Business offers one of the largest BCom programs in Canada, with five different degree types, 11 majors, and many opportunities for specialization and work experience, including student clubs, business incubators, case competitions, study abroad programs, and more.
Courses are built around group and project work, and professors are award-winning teachers and experts in their field who will challenge students to put ideas into practice as they work towards their personal career goals.
