Overview

The programme provides students with the modern tools and techniques required to manage engineering and manufacturing organisations in the 21st century. The MSc in Strategic Engineering Management equips learners to contribute significantly to organisational performance and productivity. As an accredited qualification, it meets, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration. Graduates who also hold a BEng (Hons) accredited for CEng will be able to demonstrate that they have satisfied the full educational base for CEng registration. The programme is currently accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Students are prepared for management and leadership roles, particularly within engineering, manufacturing and supply chain environments. The programme offers flexibility, enabling learners to tailor their studies to meet individual needs, whether they are experienced engineering professionals seeking to move into management or recent graduates considering their career options. Teaching is informed by strong links with local industries and professional bodies, ensuring that the curriculum remains contemporary and relevant.

The course supports students in keeping up to date with the latest developments across areas such as advanced manufacturing technologies, computer simulation, enterprise resource planning and supply chain management. A range of teaching methods provides flexibility, allowing students to study at times and locations that suit them. For those in full-time employment, day-release options may allow them to study alongside their professional responsibilities.

Academically rigorous and closely aligned to industry practice, the MSc is designed for engineering and science graduates, as well as professionals from related disciplines, who aspire to move into management roles regardless of their specialist background. It is equally suitable for recent graduates, as it broadens their career prospects and prepares them for advancement within a range of technical and managerial fields.
