Laney College's Associate in Arts in Social Justice Studies: Chicanx and Latinx Studies for Transfer program is designed to prepare students for a seamless transfer with junior status and priority admission to a California State University campus to a program or major in Chicanx and Latinx Studies or similar major for completion of a baccalaureate degree.
Upon completion of this program a student will be able to: • Evaluate and Research: Evaluate the development of the field of Chicax and Latinx Studies, utilizing research methodologies and scholarship within the field to produce research and community education. • Analysis: Effectively employ social science methodologies in the analysis of issues related to Chicanx and Latinx Studies. • Identify and describe the social, political, cultural, and economic forces that have shaped the histories and current day realities of Chicanx and Latinx populations in the United States as well as Latin American populations throughout the Americas.
Program is geared in future careers in teaching, social work, public health, community organizing, as well as working in higher education or graduate school.
