Overview

The BA (Hons) Business Management and Economics combines two complementary disciplines to enhance employability and develop expertise across both subject areas, producing versatile graduates. The course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), enabling students to gain an additional professional qualification in Management and Leadership, along with access to professional mentoring and CMI member benefits. Learning is enhanced through the use of specialist software commonly used in the financial sector, including facilities such as the Financial Markets Lab.

Recent global economic and financial crises have increased interest in applied economics, highlighting the importance of economic analysis within organisations and the wider business community. This course is designed to apply economic theory to real-life situations, drawing on academic expertise to create strong links between economic frameworks and real-world practice. There is a strong emphasis on practical, industry-focused learning through live projects, collaboration with overseas partners, and opportunities to undertake a placement year between the second and third year of study.

A wide range of optional modules allows the degree to be tailored to individual interests and career goals, with options spanning areas such as logistics, human resource management, marketing, enterprise and finance. CMI accreditation confirms that the course meets high professional standards in management and leadership and is a recognised mark of quality. Accreditation is achieved by successfully completing the required Business Management modules in the first year and selected modules in the second year.
