Overview

When students join the University of Alberta’s Year One Foundation Program, they become U of A students from day one. They receive academic support that prepares them to enter a bachelor’s degree program in their second year, along with a “soft landing” to studying in Canada.

The University of Alberta’s Year One Foundation Program represents the first year of a four-year bachelor’s degree. It is designed for students who have course deficiencies and do not yet meet the academic entry requirements for their chosen degree program. Upon successful completion of the program, students progress directly into the second year without losing time on their path to graduation.

Why study this program? Business is ultimately about working with people. This major focuses on human-centric courses and topics, preparing students to work more effectively with people and within organizations.

It’s also the program that gives students the most freedom in choosing their courses and customizing their BCom degree. Choose from courses in entrepreneurship and family business, human resource management, change management, professional service firms, cross-cultural management, working in groups and teams, understanding power and conflict, leadership, and much more.

Why study at the University of Alberta? The Alberta School of Business offers one of the largest BCom programs in Canada, with five different degree types, 11 majors, and many opportunities for specialization and work experience, including student clubs, business incubators, case competitions, study abroad programs, and more.

Courses are built around group and project work, and professors are award-winning teachers and experts in their field who will challenge students to put ideas into practice as they work towards their personal career goals.
