Overview
Students who have a wide variety of interests, Honours Arts gives them the freedom to explore it. In the University of Waterloo's largest and most flexible first-year program, students will use their first two terms to test the waters. Sample courses from the humanities, social sciences, fine and performing arts, and languages and cultures. Students can discover subjects they weren’t exposed to in high school, or delve deeper into their favourite subject at the university level. Honours Arts will give students the critical thinking skills to analyze issues, make persuasive arguments, write well, and speak with conviction — skills that will serve them well along any career path. Students will have the opportunity to explore the ways society is shaped by gender. They will be an advocate for equity, justice, and positive change. They will also learn the important role gender and sex play in all aspects of life. Over the course of their degree, students will develop a deep expertise in issues of gender, diversity, equality, and social justice.
New students will be joining a highly-engaged group of students who are active members of their student society, department, and university as well as the student-led Women’s Centre, The Glow Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity, and the surrounding community. Students will also have the opportunity to gain work experience through co-op.
