Overview

The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Children's) degree at Derby is designed for individuals who are compassionate, caring, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and their families. The course is fully aligned with the NMC’s Future Nurse: Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses, and upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in children's nursing.

This comprehensive three-year full-time programme provides students with a robust, holistic learning experience, developing both the theoretical and practical skills required to deliver high-quality care. Students gain essential hands-on experience through placements in a variety of healthcare and community settings, enabling them to apply their knowledge in real-world environments. The course is supported by some of the best university facilities, including clinical skills suites and state-of-the-art immersive simulation technology, which enhance learning and prepare students for the challenges of modern nursing practice.

Throughout the course, students will work with a highly experienced and research-active teaching team, ensuring that they receive the support needed to succeed. The curriculum focuses on the fundamental principles of nursing, fostering a compassionate professionalism that puts the needs of patients at the forefront. Students will develop a deep understanding of children's nursing and learn to approach care with empathy and resilience. Additionally, they will have access to the NHS Learning Support Fund, which can assist with costs such as training, childcare, and travel.

In addition to providing essential nursing skills, the course encourages the development of emotional resilience and leadership qualities, preparing students to become transformational nurses who can lead change and improve care delivery. This degree will equip graduates to work across a wide range of healthcare settings, supporting children with diverse needs and making a significant impact on their wellbeing.
