The School of Computing & Engineering has a strong applied research focus, with particular interests in work that addresses user concerns, business needs, and the rapid developments within the IT industry and engineering sectors.
The School’s specialisms include applied computing, artificial intelligence, cyber security, big data and data mining, business intelligence, e-business technology, application and management, smart information system design and development, the Internet of Things (IoT), IT and IS, e-learning, digital forensics, e-health technologies, business process modelling, analysis, and optimisation.
The School is currently welcoming students interested in health technologies, a multidisciplinary MSc by Research area designed for graduates from a wide range of backgrounds, including computing, cyber security, games technologies, engineering, healthcare, nursing, and psychology.
This dynamic subject area benefits from the School’s partnership with the local NHS Trust and support from the Faculty of Clinical Informatics in the UK.
Research degree candidates are supported by a supervisory team with expertise relevant to their subject and research approach. Undertaking a research degree provides opportunities for careers in full-time research or teaching, or for gaining a deeper understanding of professional practice.
