For passionate Human and Community Services professionals seeking a postgraduate qualification in social work, the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) at ACAP represents an ideal next step in career development. The program provides a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing human thoughts and behaviour, alongside the essential skills and knowledge required to practise effectively as a social worker.
The degree explores social work as a profession, including its history, ethics, and key theoretical and practice influences. Grounded in the principles of social justice and human rights, the program develops a strong understanding of social work practice methods needed to work ethically and effectively with diverse service users across a range of contexts.
The Master of Social Work (Qualifying) strengthens capabilities in critical thinking and analysis, anti-oppressive practice, community empowerment, systemic advocacy, cultural sensitivity, and social research. Classroom learning is integrated with professional practice through supervised placement opportunities, providing a total of 1,000 hours of practical work experience. This qualification is accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and meets the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS).
It is an entry-level qualification for the social work profession. The accrediting body may impose additional requirements, including minimum English language standards, to meet professional accreditation criteria. A national police record check must be completed in the first trimester of enrolment as a condition of progression. The Master of Social Work (Qualifying) is accredited under Navitas’ self-accrediting authority.
